Amber Hollibaugh is an American writer, activist, public speaker, and one of the leading voices of sex-positive feminism, lesbian liberation, and LGBTQ+ social justice. Her work has consistently explored the intersections of sexuality, gender, class, labour, health, and political activism, emphasising the lived realities of communities often marginalised within both mainstream society and feminist discourse. Emerging from the feminist and lesbian movements of the 1970s, Hollibaugh became an influential participant in the debates surrounding sexuality that culminated in the feminist sex wars of the early 1980s. Rather than separating sexual politics from broader questions of economic inequality, race, and social justice, she argued that sexual freedom could only be understood within the wider structures shaping people's everyday lives. Beyond her writing, Hollibaugh has devoted much of her career to community organising, LGBTQ+ advocacy, HIV/AIDS education, and public policy. Her work has consistently sought to bridge academic theory and grassroots activism, ensuring that discussions about sexuality remained connected to the experiences of ordinary people.
