Jack Fritscher is an American author, historian, editor, journalist, educator, and one of the most influential chroniclers of twentieth-century gay Leather culture. His work has combined creative writing, documentary research, publishing, photography, and community journalism to preserve the history of Leather communities at a time when much of that history remained undocumented or at risk of being lost. Fritscher is widely recognised for his long association with Drummer magazine, one of the most significant publications in the history of gay Leather culture. Through his editorial work, interviews, essays, and historical documentation, he helped record the evolution of Leather identity, BDSM communities, erotic publishing, and LGBTQ+ social history during the second half of the twentieth century. Beyond journalism, Fritscher has published numerous novels, essays, historical studies, and documentary works examining Leather culture, erotic identity, visual culture, and community memory.
