Katherine Davis is an American writer, educator, community organiser, and one of the founding members of SAMOIS, the first organised lesbian sadomasochist organisation. As an early advocate for consensual lesbian Leather culture, Davis played an important role in creating educational resources, fostering community dialogue, and helping establish ethical approaches to consensual power exchange during the formative years of the modern BDSM movement. Through her work with SAMOIS, Davis contributed to the creation of spaces in which lesbian practitioners could openly discuss dominance, submission, consent, safety, relationships, and identity at a time when such conversations were often marginalised both within mainstream society and within parts of the feminist movement. Her efforts reflected a commitment to education, mutual support, and the preservation of community knowledge rather than ideological conformity. Davis was among the contributors to *Coming to Power: Writings and Graphics on Lesbian S/M*, one of the defining historical anthologies of the lesbian Leather movement. Her participation helped preserve the experiences, reflections, and educational work of one of the earliest organised BDSM communities, ensuring that future generations would have access to primary historical accounts of the movement's development. Although Davis published less extensively than some of her contemporaries, her influence is closely connected to the collective achievements of SAMOIS. Her contribution reflects the importance of community builders whose work was expressed not only through individual publications but also through organisation, education, collaboration, and the creation of enduring historical records. Within The Library of The Cellars, Katherine Davis is preserved as one of the founding voices of the lesbian Leather movement. Her legacy demonstrates that the history of the Lifestyle was shaped not only by prominent authors, but also by dedicated organisers and educators whose collective efforts laid the foundations for communities that continue to thrive today.
