Mary Gaitskill is an American novelist, essayist and short story writer whose work has become one of the most distinctive explorations of intimacy, desire, vulnerability and power in contemporary literature. Emerging in the late 1980s with her acclaimed debut collection *Bad Behavior*, she developed a literary voice characterized by psychological precision, emotional ambiguity and an uncompromising examination of human relationships.
