RACK (Risk-Aware Consensual Kink)
also known as risk aware consensual kink
A framework emphasising that participants understand and accept the specific risks of an activity, rather than claiming any activity is entirely safe.
Definition
RACK acknowledges that many practices in the Lifestyle carry inherent physical or emotional risk that cannot be eliminated. It requires each participant to be informed about those risks and to accept them consciously.
RACK is often invoked for edge play and for activities where the SSC formulation of safe is considered misleading. It does not lower ethical standards; it raises the expectation that participants educate themselves about consequences.
Historical background
Attributed to the writer Gary Switch in the late 1990s.
