The Lexicon

The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

Practices

Bastinado

also known as Foot caning, Falaka

Impact play applied to the soles of the feet.

Definition

Bastinado is impact play directed at the soles of the feet, typically with a light rod or cane. The area is densely innervated, producing intense sensation from relatively light contact.

Discussion

Because of the concentration of nerves, tendons and small bones in the foot, bastinado is treated as a specialised practice within the impact repertoire. This practice generally requires advanced education, informed consent, appropriate risk awareness and should not be approached without adequate knowledge and preparation.
