Hypervigilance

Definition
Hypervigilance is a persistent state of heightened alertness beyond what a situation requires. In primal and other intense forms of play, it is discussed as a signal that a participant may need to slow down, receive aftercare, or seek support outside of play. Recognising the difference between engaged awareness and hypervigilance is part of experienced primal practice.
