The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

In the Gorean setting, castes engaged in trades, crafts and services beneath the High Castes.

Definition

Low Caste refers within the Gorean setting to those castes engaged in trades, crafts, labour and services and not counted among the High Castes. Low Caste standing is not treated in the novels as dishonourable; each Caste is understood to hold pride in its own work and traditions.
