The Lexicon

The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

Terminology

Vanilla

A neutral term for sexual or relational practice outside BDSM, Leather or kink.

Definition

Vanilla is used descriptively, not pejoratively. A vanilla partner, a vanilla friendship or a vanilla workplace is one in which BDSM or Lifestyle framing is not present. Many members of the community move fluently between vanilla and Lifestyle contexts.
