Aftercare acknowledges that intense activity can leave participants tender, tired or emotionally open. It may include hydration, warmth, quiet conversation, physical closeness, food, rest, or simply reassurance. It is offered to bottoms and tops alike; both roles can carry after-effects.

Aftercare needs are personal and are ideally discussed in negotiation. In continuing relationships, aftercare may extend over hours or days rather than minutes.
