Hemp Rope is rope made from the bast fibre of the hemp plant. It is one of the traditional fibres of Japanese rope practice, often distinguished from jute by weight, feel, and the character of its friction.

Choices between hemp and jute are matters of tradition, teaching and personal preference; each has adherents and each has recognised strengths.
