Polishing is the act of applying polish to leather footwear to preserve, condition and shine it. In Leather and BDSM contexts it is frequently practised as service — sometimes as ceremony — and carries meaning beyond its material function.

Polishing has long been a recognisable Leather practice and is closely associated with the Boot Black tradition.
