Home Stone
In the Gorean setting, the sacred token that embodies the identity of a city, household or free person's dwelling.
Definition
The Home Stone is a stone, often plain in appearance, that serves in the Gorean setting as the embodiment of a place's identity. A city has a Home Stone; a household or free person's dwelling may also have one. Loyalty to a Home Stone is treated in the novels as a matter of the highest honour, and its defence is a first duty of those who share it.
Historical background
The concept has become one of the most recognised symbols of Gorean tradition, and is widely adopted in Gorean community practice as a metaphor for hearth, household and belonging.
Discussion
In community practice, Home Stones are sometimes used symbolically to mark the identity of a household, chatroom or gathering, without necessarily replicating every aspect of the fictional custom.
