In common English 'prey' can carry connotations of helplessness. In primal play it names a consensual role that may involve active resistance, cunning or evasion, and is defined by mutual agreement.

Within a primal dynamic, the Prey role is adopted by the participant who takes the pursued, evading or captured part. Prey may resist, evade or ultimately yield within the negotiated frame of the scene. As with all roles, the label describes a play position and is not a statement about the person outside of play.
