The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

Roles

Spotter

A person whose role is to watch a rope scene for safety and to assist if intervention is needed.

Definition

A Spotter is a person whose task in a rope scene, particularly a suspension, is to observe closely, monitor the Rope Bottom's condition, and be ready to assist should intervention be required. The Spotter does not tie but is an equal member of the Suspension Team.

Discussion

Spotting is a discipline in its own right and is taught seriously by many rope educators.
