Dog Play is an umbrella term for canine animal-role practice covering the full range of dog personas — puppies, adult dogs, working dogs, wolves and related figures. In many contexts it is used interchangeably with Puppy Play; in others it names the broader canine field of which Puppy Play is one part.

Dog Play predates the formalisation of Puppy Play as a distinct subculture and remains in use as an inclusive term for canine personas.

Communities differ on whether Dog Play and Puppy Play are synonymous. The Lexicon records both terms as widely used.
