Intention refers to the shared clarity about what a rope scene is meant to be. It is discussed both in negotiation, where partners establish it before beginning, and during a scene, where it shapes the choices each partner makes moment to moment.

Intent and Intention are used somewhat interchangeably; some writers use Intent for the Rope Top's inward orientation and Intention for the shared purpose of the scene.
