The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

Roles

Owner

A participant who holds a formal, ongoing role of authority and responsibility toward a Pet within a consensual dynamic.

Definition

Disambiguation

'Owner' is used across many authority traditions — collar relationships, petplay, ponyplay, Female-Led households and others — with meanings shaped by each tradition. This article treats the general relational concept.

Owner is a term used within Petplay and related traditions for a person who has entered a sustained, consensual relationship of authority and responsibility with a Pet. The Owner role usually implies a longer horizon than a Handler at a single event, and is often associated with ceremonial markers such as a Collar, registration or public acknowledgment. As with all such roles, Owner is a role adopted by mutual, informed consent between adults.

Historical background

The term Owner developed alongside long-term Petplay dynamics, where language borrowed from companion-animal life was adapted to describe an ongoing consensual arrangement.

Discussion

Communities differ in their comfort with the word Owner and use terms such as Handler, Keeper or Partner interchangeably in some contexts. The Lexicon records Owner as a widely recognised term without endorsing any single relationship structure.
