Caretaker
A participant who provides the ongoing care, welfare and support of an animal-role partner.
Definition
A Caretaker is a role focused on the wellbeing of a Pet, Pup, Kitten, Pony or other animal-role participant. Caretaking includes attention to hydration, rest, warmth, safety, emotional support and aftercare, and may be exercised by a Handler, Owner or a distinct third party within a Pack, Household or event context.
Historical background
The Caretaker role reflects the community's emphasis on welfare within animal-role scenes, and echoes real-world duties of care in animal husbandry adapted to a consensual adult context.
Discussion
In some dynamics Caretaker is a distinct role held by someone other than the primary Handler; in others the same person performs both functions. Caretaking is not merely maintenance work — it is often a valued expression of the relationship itself.
