A Rider is a person who mounts or is carried by a Human Pony within Pony Play, whether on the Pony's back where safety and physical suitability allow, or in a cart drawn by the Pony. Riding varies from ceremonial to athletic and demands attention to safety, weight, terrain and communication.

The Rider role has been part of Pony Play since its early formalisation, adapted from equestrian traditions of the wider world.

Rider practices differ significantly between communities and Stables. Cart riding is far more common than mounted riding, largely for safety and physical reasons.
