Driver
A participant who drives a Human Pony from a cart or on long reins.
Definition
The Driver in Pony Play is the person who guides a Pony from a cart or, in Ground Driving, from behind while walking. The Driver holds the reins, communicates through voice, seat and rein aids, and is responsible for the safe conduct of the drive.
Historical background
The Driver role is drawn from carriage-driving tradition, adapted to Human Pony work as Pony Play developed its own body of practice.
Discussion
Driving requires specific skills. Communities that emphasise driving often provide structured education for Drivers as well as Ponies.
