The Lexicon preserves the language of the Lifestyle — its words, concepts and traditions. It records meaning; it never prescribes practice. Where usage varies between Houses or lineages, each is set down with equal respect.

Practices

Kitten Play

The family of animal-role practices centred on feline personas.

Definition

Kitten Play involves adopting the persona of a cat or kitten within a consensual dynamic. It is often associated with a softer, more sensual register than Puppy Play, and typically features gestures such as arching, curling, purring and playful batting alongside gear such as ears, tails and collars. Kitten Play can be casual, ceremonial or part of a sustained Owner/Kitten dynamic.

Historical background

Kitten Play grew as a distinct expression within Petplay through the late twentieth century, developing its own aesthetics and community spaces alongside Puppy Play.

Discussion

Communities differ in the emphasis placed on gear, on Owner/Kitten dynamics and on ceremonial elements. Kitten Play is not a lesser or diluted form of Puppy Play; it is a distinct tradition with its own character.
