'Omega' has been used with widely divergent meanings across communities, including senses from online subcultures that have no bearing on Lifestyle usage. This article treats the term only in its pack- and primal-tradition sense.

Omega is a term used within some Packs to describe a supportive, nurturing, newer or more sensitive role. In such Packs it is not treated as inferior but as a distinct and valued position within the group.

Omega entered animal-role vocabulary alongside Alpha and Beta from popular ethology, and has been reinterpreted within community practice, sometimes explicitly rejecting the hierarchical implications of the original term.

Communities differ on whether Omega is used at all and what it should mean. The Lexicon records the term as one of several optional Pack vocabularies.
