The Guide

The Library is an editorial catalogue of books on BDSM, Leather, D/s, M/s, FemDom, Male Dominance, Japanese Rope, Gorean traditions, Petplay, Primal, Psychology, Consent, Protocol and adjacent fields. It is a bibliography, not a store, and it never hosts or links to digital editions of copyrighted works.

How to read The Library

Browse by Collection for curated groupings such as Essential Reading or Leather Classics. Follow a Reading Path when you want a considered order through a tradition. Look at an Author page to see everything by a particular voice. Every book carries an editorial classification — Essential, Highly Recommended, Recommended, Specialised or Historical Reference — chosen by the Archivists.

A Collection is an unordered grouping: everything that belongs together, whatever order it is read in. A Reading Path is ordered and annotated: a sequence an Archivist judged worth following step by step, with a note on why each work occupies its place. A book may belong to several of each, and neither replaces the catalogue.

Authors

An author page gathers a life and a body of work: dates, tradition, key achievements, and the works held here. Many writers in this field published under more than one name. Where that is so, the record carries the alternate names — pen names, pseudonyms, initials and editorial variants — immediately beneath the primary name, and a search for any of them reaches the same page.

Bibliographic record

Beyond title and author, a book record may hold full archival and academic metadata: edition and printing, publisher and place, original language and translator, series, pagination, identifiers, and a suggested citation. Every such field is optional, and a field left empty is simply absent from the page rather than shown as blank.

The review

Each book is accompanied by a Cellars Review with distinct sections: Abstract, Historical Context, Main Subjects, Strengths, Limitations, Recommended Audience, Legacy, and an Archivist Commentary. Not every book requires every section. The intent is orientation, not verdict.

Discussion

Signed-in members may add to the Discussion on any book page — threaded replies, editable, deletable. Discussion is the only form of member input here: there are no ratings, no votes, no stars. Discussion is moderated as elsewhere in The Cellars; contributions withdrawn by staff remain visible to the author and to the Keepers.

Suggesting a book

Any signed-in member may suggest a work through Suggest a book. The Archivists review suggestions; if a book is accepted, a draft record is created and completed editorially. If it is declined, you will receive a short note explaining why.

Editorial workflow

Books, authors, Collections and Reading Paths all follow the shared Editorial Lifecycle. Records are related to the other collections through the Knowledge Graph.

What The Library is not

The Library does not distribute copyrighted works. It never hosts PDFs. It never links to pirated copies. It documents books, evaluates their value, and encourages informed reading.
