The Guide

The Cellars is strictly for adults. You will confirm your date of birth and choose a primary role — Dominant, submissive, switch, or another self-description that fits. You may also pick what you are looking for and your experience level. None of this is a brand: you can refine it later from your profile.

Your handle is your address — short, lowercase, and durable. Your display name is how others read you in conversation. Choose something you will still want to be called in a year. You may add pronouns and the identities and archetypes that describe how you see yourself within the lifestyle.

Identity & Archetypes is not a catalogue of practices or preferences. It is the aspect of yourself you wish others to understand before they meet you. The Cellars presents these in five groups: Relationship Identity, Archetypes, Practice Identity, Expression, and Community Presence. The taxonomy is intentionally curated rather than exhaustive. Choose what fits; leave the rest empty. Your Lifestyle Role is a separate field and answers a different question.

A short, optional step: what brings you to The Cellars? Mentorship, a long-term dynamic, friendship, conversation, learning, events, service, house membership, correspondence, ritual, personal growth, exploration. These are indications of where you currently wish your journey to lead, not commitments. Seeking is kept separate from Identity on purpose: who you are and what you are looking for are different questions.

A short paragraph is enough to begin. State who you are in this space and what you are here for. You can add country, languages and availability now or later — see Your Profile.

You will affirm the Community Rules: consent first, privacy by default, adults only. These are not formalities; they are the floor of every interaction.

The Cellars is an archive before it is a community — it preserves rather than prescribes, and documents rather than instructs. That intent is set out in The Cellars as an Institution, which is the best half-hour a new member can spend.

Navigation follows the same shape throughout. The Guide is the map you are reading. Explore holds the collections. Community holds members, Houses, Chambers and Correspondence. Staff tools appear only to those who hold an office.

All six are kept by one method, described in Editorial Lifecycle, and bound together by the Knowledge Graph. You may contribute to any of them from your first day.

After onboarding, your readiness page shows small, optional steps that round out a profile — a first bio paragraph, a few interests, a verification request when you feel ready. Nothing here is a gate; it is simply a checklist for arriving well.

Begin slowly. Read a few profiles. Visit the Houses. Open a manuscript, or a shelf of the Library. The Cellars rewards patience.
